Mary, a lovely bit of light relief re Defra's digital mapping, from a farmer in Leics. (last week Farmers' Guardian) who wrote;
"I wouldn't have been surprised if they (Defra) had lost a paperclip, or a sheet of A4 - but a whole field? We only had four in the first place"
"It was there the last time I looked, I know I've made hay on it, and cut and laid a hedge around it. It has a wood at the side making a shelter for new lambs..."
"I miss it already ... but where do I start to look for it? I could contact the Missing Fields Squad, but they would only come in a fortnight's time to give me a crime number for insurance purposes. Are Defra quietly collecting up these spare fields to build a huge estate near Crewe? If this is the case where will it end?"
"Could they alter the map of Britain as they have of our small farm? Would the Isle of Wight be missed - or Cornwall?
Who knows what dark deeds are afoot.
Meanwhile if anyone had seen my little 'motorway' field lying about, please contact me at the address below."
