Dear Warmwell,

Thanks for  providing a lot of useful information. In
regard to the current information stream running on your site regarding
rapid diagnosis of FMD, you posted that a "paper published this week by
BMC Veterinary Research 2008 "Diagnosis of foot-and mouth disease by
real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction under field
conditions in Brazil" by Tatiane A Paixao et al.describes rapid and
reliable detection of FMDV allowing identification of infected animals
before development of clinical signs - under field conditions and in a
fraction of the time required for combined virus isolation/ELISA". I
agree with the statement, but would like to point you to a paper that we
have already published that describes the same under field conditions in
Pakistan and employing many more samples which was published in Virology
Journal in April 2008 "Epidemiology of foot-and-mouth disease in Landhi
Dairy Colony, Pakistan, the world largest Buffalo colony; by Joern
Klein, Manzoor Hussain, Munir Ahmad, Muhammad Afzal and Soren
Alexandersen". I have attached this paper and supporting files as it may
be of interest to you or your readers.

Best wishes,

Soren Alexandersen
