I wish to update people to the governments view of "No new cases since 30th September".Late October, and a field of sheep at Exelby, North Yorkshire are routinely tested for FMD prior to movement. Cut to the Friday evening, the road is closed, FMD tape and notices everywhere, and when the road is reopened a couple of hours later, the sheep (presumably now carcasses) are gone.
Concerned for his own farm, my father contacted local DEFRA officials. They confirmed that the sheep had tested positive for FMD antibodies, and said they suspected the flock had recently recovered from the disease. They said signs of lesions were still present in their mouths. This is DEFRA central's idea of "No new cases since 30th Sept".
