"our own rescued hen - no longer afraid"
Part of email received today from Roger L, September 18 2009
"....they rescued some ex. battery egg laying hens.Their egg laying days were almost over and were ready to be slaughtered for cheap meat. You know - the two for a £1 offers !"
When they arrived they could hardly stand. They were almost bald. They huddled together in a tight little bundle, frightened to move and were afraid of daylight.
A sad pathetic sight indeed.
Usually in these cheap egg factories they de-beak them so they don't peck each other. Fortunately these had their beaks. Anyway, today, they have doubled in weight, have all their feathers, are laying huge, tasty, free range eggs daily and were in the vegetable patch running around picking caterpillars off the cabbages.
When you think of their previous life crammed behind bars in a shed with thousands of others and the final horror that they were destined for,i think you will agree that to see them happily running around scratching about was a delight to see.
Now, i would respectfully ask you to read and or watch the life, on the blog, of an intensively reared battery hen and sign up to make a difference.....Since last night. 1,500 more people have signed up. And since Hugh did his stuff on " Breakfast" TV News this morning, people are signing up in droves ! http://www.chickenout.tv/ "
