THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE TRUTH
the Yorkshire Post on August 29th
"....Launching the Campaign for the Truth at Westminster, Tory MP Bill Cash raised fears of a Government "cover-up and a whitewash" if Prime Minister Tony Blair rejected the mass petition for a full and transparent public inquiry. ...... But Farms Minister Lord Whitty later signalled that the Government would not be moved by the petition campaign. He said the inquiries announced by his boss, Margaret Beckett, would be "full and thorough" with the results made public.
Mr Cash was joined at the launch of the campaign by representatives of the NFU, the Countryside Alliance, the British Association of Shooting and Conservation and the Country Land and Business Association."
The petition (click here)A campaign for a multi-million signature petition to Parliament from people throughout the United Kingdom FOR A FULLY INDEPENDENT, IMPARTIAL AND TRANSPARENT PUBLIC INQUIRY into the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak is now demanded by the CLA, The Countryside Alliance , the BASC and finally by the NFU, all of whom are publishing it on their web or circulating it to their members. (About 350,000 in all.)
It is a Parliamentary Petition, to be presented in Parliament with at least 5 million signatures, it is to be hoped.
Important! The original form of the petition must be used
It should be printed off ( so that its format remains the same ) before being completed with the 25 signatures. This is vital and cannot be stressed enough. The Rules of Parliamentary Public Petitions state that the top sheet has to be on manuscript, (that's all done in Cirencester ) and every continuation sheet has to be printed with the petition wording and remain uniform to all the other sheets attached.
The signatures for each petition
must be hand-written; no electronic signatures will be counted -it is all formal, and we must not get it wrong, so I have included a sheet of Information for each person attached to the Petition, so they can see what needs to be done. Please send it to everyone you can think of, by mail, e:mail, fax, you name it - please send it. Please print it now today and send the link to everyone in your address book with a request that they do the same.
Lotd Whitty has said that the Government will not be moved by a petition campaign. He said the inquiries announced by his boss, Margaret Beckett, would be "full and thorough" with the results made public. But 5 million signatures can move mountains - even mountainous amounts of secrecy - and the demand is that the inquiry itself be made public.
