From Nick Green in Cumbria
The Police Report was sent to me today17 pages, that's all So I will attempt to scan it in and send it out.
As a taster read this:-
"On some occasions, however, there was very limited local authority training before permits were issued. This resulted in some instances of misuse, where animals undoubtedly suffered"
"The use of captive bolt guns, which were unsuitable for mass destruction. Many weapons broke resulting in slaughterers using other types of firearms"
"Poor security of weapons and ancillary equipment on the ground, particularly at night."
Oh also, Mrs Beckett was asked by Peter Ainsworth on 11 March 2002 "what reports she has received from Police Officers on Police involvement in the culling of animals during the FMD crisis?"
Reply:- "The Department received no reports on this matter."
This report was sent to HMI last September NICK
