Protection for British Livestock and Farmers
The reply from David Maclean received by Mrs Taylor on May 19th
Dear Mrs Taylor
Thank you for your letter dated 13th may. Although you do not live in Penrith and the Borders, I thought I would drop you a short response to say that I agree entirely with the thrust of your letter. I have seen the Donaldson article in the Veterinary Record and I have been in touch with the Royal Cillege of Veterinary Surgeons. I am also concerned about the extent of the cull.
I can assure you that I will be pressing for a full and proper public inquiry because it is clear to me that there have been two major political crimes committed by this Government, the first was to sweep it under the carpet for the first few weeks in the hope that it would not upset a May election and then, when it became too big a catastrophe to hide, they then went on a massive killing spree so that FMD could be wiped out by the 7 June.
Thank you for writing to me on this important matter.
The Rt Hon David Maclean
