Dear Mary,
we would be grateful if you could bring to attention the following competition. The aim is to enable the voice of livestock keepers/stakeholders and those working on FMD control to be heard - a set of opinions, viewpoints, experiences communicated on short video-clips can be far more effective then any amount of high level opinion, in trying to influence decision makers about what must change. At the same time, we miss visual resources for training etc, so the materials can have many uses.
We hope to hear from those
affected, those working on FMD , vet services and regulators etc from
around the world.
The best will
be shown at our upcoming International Meeting in Sicily (The Global Control of
FMD: tools, ideas and ideals).
I am sure many of your warmwell contributors could add to the international voices, and bring in clips from 2001 to the present.
It does not matter how controversial or strident their views, the point to be made is that disease and disease control matters to people, and to publicise this.

CLIP COMPETITION EUFMD Secretariat
Do you realize that there are almost no movies/video
clips online (e.g. You-Tube) on FMD? Either on the disease itself, or
more importantly, on the efforts and problems to control it?
We
aim to change this - to encourage understanding of the work of people on FMD
around the world - from field experiences, control issues, to your
aspirations, ideas and lab actions to improve FMD control. They will be
screened at the Conference in Session breaks - so go ahead and express
yourself and your work!

Ideas: take clips on cell
phones or home movie cameras of yourself or your team at work. Show the world
what you do!
Link to themes of the meeting: what are your constraints,
what needs to be done to improve the situation?
Tell us by expressing
it in a clip of 30 seconds to 2 minutes!
What do livestock keepers say
about FMD control? Record short clips and post-them online!
The clips
can be posted directly onto You-Tube with the title EuFMD-Erice2008 and your
topic title (For instance, "Eufmd-Erice2008 Global Fmd control" plus
the topic title)
Please do not forget to send us the link and your
title or we will not be able to track the clip and create a catalogue of
all videos.
For the competition videos must be sent by 3rd October.
You do NOT need to attend the
Session to qualify for a prize. This is open to all.
There will be a
prize for the most voted video!
