A Letter from Tony York at Pig Paradise Farm

Hello Everyone

As you all know last month I found it necessary to discontinue working and campaigning for an end to the unnecessary slaughter of animals nationwide. This decision was brought about because of the very difficult situation we were experiencing here at 'Pig Paradise Farm'.

At that time it was suggested that I might be able to 'return to action' once I had sorted out our own difficulties and a date of 14th August was suggested.

I am writing now to let you all know that this will definitely not be possible. Despite my best efforts and trying everything I know (legally!) Defra/Maff have had a victory in their own way. We are now faced with closing 'Pig Paradise Farm' whilst also selling the house, the pasture land and woodlands to clear our mounting debts. We shall be advertising the property in the next week or so and once we find a buyer we shall start planning the rest of our lives.

If any of you, or any of your friends, like the idea of a move to a very beautiful old detached black & white property in excellent condition (3 bedrooms, showeroom, dining room, large utility room, very large kitchen, lounge, bathroom, study, hall and two stairways) with woodland, pasture, stream, outbuildings, large orchard and garden with beautiful views please contact us. We are situated on the Welsh/Shropshire borders 20 minutes from Shrewsbury, 7 minutes from Welshpool, 15 minutes from Oswestry, 50 minutes from Chester and about an hour from Birmingham. The village itself has a shop, garage and two pubs. The asking price is #273,000 but under the circumstnces would negotiate for a quick sale. There are good schools in the area, a hospital and good shopping facilities in a very friendly local environment. Our nearest neighbours are two fields away.

As you are aware have had to sell a lot of our pigs to meat dealers in order to survive and cut down on the feed bill but do have a few left. If anyone is going to be in the area over the next few weeks and would like half a pig (wrapped and jointed for the freezer) as either pork or cured (bacon, ham, gammon etc.) then we will have a few for sale. We also have a lot of our now famous Cumberland ring sausages that are 100% meat with no rusk or breadcrumb filler at all. PLEASE RING TO ORDER IN ADVANCE AS WE SUPPLY ONLY TO ORDERS.

For your information all our pigs are naturally fed and reared and have the total freedom of 7 acres of woodland in which to roam. They are all rare breeds and are never fed growth promoters, chemical additives or parts of any other animal. They are as naturally reared as they can be and we do not use chemical fertilisers on the land.

Because of circumstances I have not been keeping up to date with all the website posting but have heard on the 'grapevine' what a wonderful job so many of you are still doing.

I am very sorry I will not be able to return but hope I can still keep in touch with the very many friends I have made over the passed months. Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind e-mails, letters and offers of assistance. All were appreciated and will be treasured although we were not able to take up the offers that were made.

I hope we meet again someday and will keep in touch. I wish you all every success in your continued campaign and will be with you in heart and spirit if not in body,
